MONDAY LOWDOWN: How’s That Eclipse Weather Looking?
Who’s ready to stare at the sun?!
In Humboldt, the could-not-be-more-hyped “Great American Eclipse” will see the moon begin to creep across the sun at 9:01 a.m. and will reach its peak of 87 percent coverage at about 10:15 a.m. The show ends fully at 11:36 a.m.
But will we even get to see a show? Of course, the big local question: Will Humboldters have their eclipse fogged out?
Early this morning the National Weather Service released its latest satellite imagery including Monday cloud activity in northwest California. On the coast they predict that “marine stratus will be burning off through the morning” while there will be a higher chance of clear skies in inland locations, as usual.
“Two things that may impact viewing of the partial solar eclipse include smoke and passing high clouds,” says NWS.
Eh, well, good luck, skywatchers! Remember, HSU will let you use their telescopes and their astronomers this morning during a special event on the HSU events field at 17th and B streets. Or, for more informal eclipse viewing, we’re told the Logger Bar in Blue Lake is opening its doors at 8 a.m. — Tequila Sunrise specials!
