‘Fortuna Strong’ Will Auction Off a Jersey Signed by a Baseball Legend at its Fundraiser Tonight
[Andrew Goff]
Tonight, the City of Fortuna fights back the flames. Amending a phrase that was widely adopted by the city of Boston after that city’s marathon bombing, they’re calling their healing fundraiser “Fortuna Strong.”
Almost a month after a devastating fire claimed Fortuna Main Street’s Star Hotel Building, the actual humans that give “The Friendly City” its nickname will gather at the River Lodge to raise money to establish a grant fund for the people and businesses affected. An overwhelming number of Fortuna businesses have donated items and services for various auctions.
One auction item of particular note: It was announced on the Fortuna Strong Facebook page today that someone has donated a signed Willie Mays jersey for your bidding pleasure. Say hey!
More details on the Fortuna Strong momentum can be scrolled on its associated Facebook page. Other countywide events in your Friday Lowdown below.
