Gimme a “Yee!” Gimme a “Haw!” Fortuna Rodeo Week Kicks Off Today
Bulls, blood, dust, mud and a few other things Garth Brooks claimed to be an expert on are giving Fortuna cause to celebrate for the next seven days. Pull on your booties, kids. It’s time for the 2015 Fortuna Rodeo Week, the Friendly City’s annual “yee-haw”-athon.
How down home-y does it get? Well, here’s the quickest of rundowns of the week’s highlights (click each day for more detailed info):
- Monday: Burn your tongue out of your mouth at the annual Chili Cookoff on Main Street.
- Tuesday: Exhaust your children during the Children’s Game Night at the Redwood Village Shopping Center.
- Wednesday: The carnival opens in Rohner Park and remains for the remainder of the week. Plus, more child occupying games and Junior Rodeo.
- Thursday: Hopefully, nothing catches fire in Fortuna Thursday, our local heroes will be occupied with the annual Fireman’s Games.
- Friday: Motorsports Night features motocross jumper Julian Dusseau, ATV and Rhino racing and, of course, the wow,-someone-thought-of-that spectacle that is Quadiators.
- Saturday: With the weekend comes the actual rodeo part of the Fortuna Rodeo, but there’s also a parade and the Bulls, Bands and Brews shindig at the rodeo grounds.
- Sunday: More rodeo, plus the annual gut-busting barbecue.
Don’t forget, the Humboldt Folklife Festival continues at Dell’Arte Monday night with the return of “Songwriters Night.” Also, there’s some rare Monday night band-age at The Siren’s Song Tavern headlined by Boston-based Bent Knees. [UPDATE: For whatever reason, the Bent Knees show has been last-minute postponed until tomorrow. Stand up straight until then.]
