There is Allegedly a ‘Boston Tribute’ Band Playing C Street Market Square Tonight, But What Does that Mean?

In the Internet age, it is very important to choose a band name that won’t confuse people who might potentially want to listen to you. In short, be searchable. You want to make sure the series of letters you label your artistic vision with don’t overlap with more common things. This is your music! Like, if ‘70s rockers Boston were readying to first unleash their slick arena rock on earth’s ears today, one would assume they would select a different moniker. They seem like savvy marketers — all their albums sport that rawkin’ guitar spaceship — and Boston, as you may know, is already a major city that contains sports teams, Markets and newspapers.

Tonight begins the Eureka Summer Concert Series which, each year, brings bands to the C Street Market Square for performances attended by Eureka denizens pleased to sway to free, outdoor music. The series kicks off, we are told, with a band called Boston Rocks. OK. We assume we know what that means. It’s got to be a tribute to Boston (the band), right? LoCO was hoping to find a video to share here on the Lowdown of the band earnestly plugging away through more than a feeling, but, geez, googling “Boston Rocks” produces little fruit (I got a gym, a Berklee College concert, something about Massachusetts geology, etc.) This band is unfindable!

We reached out to our buddy Tom Sebourn of KGOE (who co-produces the series) and he admitted he did not have any more info on the group scheduled to play tonight than we did. Huh. Then we tried a Google image search and, a ways down, look what popped up:

Is this the same band? There is really no way to know. But, if it is, the image suggests something potentially exciting: In addition to the logo for Boston (the band) it also features logos for Aerosmith, J. Geils Band and The Cars, other bands forged in the city of Boston. Hey hey! LoCO likes The Cars more than Boston (the band)! Perhaps this is good news! Show up at 6 p.m. at the foot of C Street to find out! —Andrew Goff
