You May See Classier-Than-Usual Automobiles Zooming Around Eureka This Weekend

Should you start feeling a creeping inadequacy about your current means of transportation this weekend, never fear. The annual Cruz’n Eureka event, which draws car enthusiasts from far and wide to our region, will only assault your insecurities for the next three days. Just know that this slight inconvenience to your ego benefits a good cause, namely the Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods. Deal.

Here’s a brief rundown of the Cruz’n highlights:

  • Thursday: Shiny roadsters will convene at the Red Lion Hotel for a poker run and make their way down to the Vista Del Mar for an outdoor waterfront concert featuring local bands Ghost Train and Cold Blue Water.
  • Friday: Show and Shine time! All the chromey eye candy will line Commercial Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. before revving it up through Old Town at 6 p.m. Cruzers the have the option to take in a screening of The Gumball Rally (1976, 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) at the Eureka Theater.
  • Saturday: From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Second Street in Old Town will be lined with over a hundred motorized beauties for the Cruz’n Eureka Car Show with numerous prizes being awarded to this year’s top entires from the Gazebo at 3 p.m.

More info can be found at the BGCR website. Also note that CenterArts’ website says there are a handful of Demetri Martin tickets left for tonight’s show at the Van Duzer Theatre. Click fast. Details on all of Thursday’s distractions in your Lowdown listings below. —AG
