Several large explosions were heard throughout Arcata last night.
According to the Arcata Police Department’s calls for service, the first boom was reported on the 1100 block of Stromberg Ave. around 8:45 p.m.
Later that night around 11:30, a series of booms were reported, this time near the 800 block of F street.
Multiple readers reported hearing the booms on Facebook last night, and an APD dispatcher told the Outpost that APD officers saw a large flash and smoke coming from an area near the Arcata Ball Park.
These booms come days after numerous explosions were reported overnight in Eureka.
While we are getting close to New Year’s — a time when fireworks are expected to be a problem — extremely loud and mysterious explosions have been an ongoing issue around Eureka and Arcata for half a decade.
