The road has rules. So does physics.

Despite society’s best efforts to keep order on our roadways, things don’t always go as planned.

That’s why the Outpost has decided to start tracking and publishing some of the stranger moments documented by the local California Highway Patrol office.

Introducing “Vehicle VS”: The latest Outpost feature named after the shorthand commonly used by the CHP when a vehicle hits something it’s not supposed to.

Vehicle VS will not focus on standard or serious traffic collisions. Instead, it’s a place for all the unpredictable and sometimes wacky traffic events you don’t normally read about.

For Example: vehicles vs speed signs, construction equipment, barns, video stores, brick walls, fire hydrants, mattresses, turkeys or any other out-of-the-ordinary traffic incidents that may occur.

Below are some memorable moments of times vehicles or other roadway objects have ended up in peculiar situations in Humboldt County.
