Your Dammed Humboldt Thursday
Assuming you didn’t burn up yesterday and want to venture out tonight, your Humboldt Thursday leans heavily Arcata:
- Being the first Thursday of the month, ‘tis once again time for the local enviro crowd to come together and watch movies at the Arcata Theatre Lounge. This edition Ocean Night features the documentary DamNation, a film looking at the evolution in attitudes toward damming our rivers. A brief film synopsis:
Dam removal has moved beyond the fictional Monkey Wrench Gang to go mainstream. Where obsolete dams come down, rivers bound back to life, giving salmon and other wild fish the right of return to primeval spawning grounds, after decades without access. - Elsewhere in Arcata tonight, the organizers of the Humboldt Arts Festival are holding a two-venue fundraiser for their annual event occurring in two weeks. Both Jambalaya and HumBrews will feature multiple performances from artists associated with the festival. Organizers Steven Weven and Vico Hernandez stopped by the KHUM studios this morning to hype the event, an interview which you can hear here on the Lowdown below.
