Valentine’s Day Lowdown: You’re (Mostly) on You’re Own, Humboldt!

Does the Konevets Quartet know it’s Valentine’s Day?

Gotta say, not sure if it’s because this romantic-est of days falls on a Tuesday or not but, event-wise, this Humboldt Valentine’s Day is somewhat lovelorn. Looking back at previous year’s V-Day Lowdown listings revealed a wealth of music, dancing and lovey-dovey spectacle. This year, it seems you’re going to have to get creative, lovers.

Sure, there are a few out-and-about highlights. Let’s spread the love:

  • As is standard for a Tuesday, Richard’s Goat Tavern will feature salsa and cumbia dancing with local Latin EDM DJs Sonido Pachanguero. Just your luck! This year, Valentine’s Day = Taco Tuesday!
  • Fans of classical Russian choral groups surely already have their tickets for the Konevets Quartet — direct from St. Petersburg! — who will perform “sacred music from the Eastern Christian traditions, as well as a repertoire of Slavic folk songs” at St. Innocent Orthodox Church in Eureka. Is this your idea of romance? No judgment! 
  • Uh, afternoon Pillow Fight on the Arcata Plaza anyone? Sure.  
  • Savage Henry FTW! The local comedy rag is hosting one of their comedy nights at The Jam headlined by Los Angeles-based standup Dave Stone. Are his comic stylings your perfect aphrodisiac? Sample his yuks via the late The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in the YouTube clip below. Feeling tingly?
