Saturday, June 8
‘Tis the span of the Humboldt year when every Saturday is solidly packed with community events. You do not have time to hit all of these, so choose wisely:
- The Mattole Restoration Council celebrates 30 years of watershed improvement with a daylong event at the Mattole Grange. Featuring food, games and auctions, plus your soundtrack for the day will be provided by Absynth Quintet and Moonalice.
- The annual celebration of motorcycles, rock and roll and boobs that is the Redwood Run continues Saturday. Highway 101 will be littered with Harleys. Give ‘em some space.
- This is the second and final weekend of North Coast Open Studios, your annual opportunity to invite yourself into starangers’ homes and work spaces while maybe pickin’ up something pretty for your own space. Don’t abuse that privilege. Wipe your feet.
- Humboldt Roller Derby returns for a match against Mendo Mayhem, while junior squad The Saplings take on the Silicon Valley Web Bruisers. This will sell out. Plan ahead
- The Humboldt Crabs head into their second weekend of play, taking on the hilariously named Healdsburg Prune Packers. Crabs = good. Prune Packers = bums. Let those creative heckles fly!
Details on those things and more in today’s Lowdown. Honestly though, I’m going to the river. Lata.
