Friday’s Packed Lowdown: Zepparella, Punkgrass, Final Fair Weekend and a Birthday

Well this is just a packed little weekend for Humboldt, isn’t it? Your Lowdown almost ran out of “red line.” Note, if you have not gotten your curly fry/Gravitron fix, this is the last weekend of the Humboldt County Fair. Checked that box? Well, let’s see if we can find you something to do this Friday:

  • Humboldt County lifestyle publication The Emerald Magazine is this many (holds up two fingers) years old. To celebrate, publisher Christina DeGiovanni will be partying at Jambalaya along with a handful of local comedians, Cliff Dallas and the Death Valley Troubadours and DJ Red. She will also share her cake with you.
  • Its gonna be one of those packed, sweaty Logger Bar nights. Leading worship at Blue Lake’s only church will be Wichita punkgrass band Carrie Nation and the Speakeasy. The Filthy Still return to Humboldt to open.
  • Everyone should see Zepparella at least once if only to confirm that the all-female tribute band is not just a gimmick. There isn’t a weak link in this group who faithfully recreate the Led Zeppelin live experience by not shying away from improvisation. Before you head out to HumBrews, sample their sound below in their clip for “Dazed and Confused.”
