The Arcata Plaza Will Be a Big, Pink Pile of Empowerment This Afternoon

Your Humboldt Friday evening is dominated by the inevitable slew of events that pop up around the downtown Arcata anytime Arts Arcata makes its monthly visit. A sampling:

  • The Arcata Theatre Lounge is capitalizing with continued Bowie in memoriam by screening Serious Moonlight
  • Ska veterans The Toasters will provide your skanking soundtrack should you venture over to HumBrews.
  • The Arcata Playhouse continues its critique of capitalism by staging The Threepenny Opera.

That’s all fine and good, but if you can slip out work early (or take a late lunch) and get up to the Arcata Plaza, by 2 p.m., your eyes may beholdeth the joy that is hundreds of local youth taking a dancing stand against violence and injustice in the form of the annual One Billion Rising rally. Organized as part of VDay Humboldt, our kids and young adults will perform choreographed positivity to a soundtrack of Katy Perry’s “Roar.” You’re gonna hear them.

Rather than explain further what this all looks like, check out a clip of what this event looked like back in 2013 in the clip below.
