Thursday Lowdown: Female Surfers Fight Sexism, Racial Strife Discussion, Patty Larkin Speaks!
Your Humboldt Thursday contains quite a few unique community-binding options. A few:
- Humboldt beach worshipers will convene at the Arcata Theatre Lounge for the monthly Ocean Night Film Screening. This edition features It Ain’t Pretty, a documentary looking at the highs and lows of being a female big wave surfer. Trailer above.
- Up at HSU’s Kate Buchanan Room will be the Black and Blue Dialogue featuring a panel of local community leaders and law enforcement reacting to recent nationwide racially motivated civil unrest.
- Beloved singer/songwriter Patty Larkin returns to the Arcata Playhouse for a night of powerful restraint. Hear Larkin chat up KHUM DJ Bayley Brown in the radio interview below and/or absorb the aural atmosphere she creates (as much as you can on YouTube, anyway) in the clip below that.
