(VIDEO) Thursday Lowdown: Trans Author/Activist Gives Free Lecture at HSU
Thursday night in the Van Duzer Theatre: Humboldt State University’s 2017 Philosophy Forum will feature a free keynote lecture from noted trans author and activist Jennifer Finney Boylan. The author of 15 books including the acclaimed autobiographical bestseller She’s Not There: A Life in Two Genders, Boylan has been a high-profile advocate for transgender issues for over a decade, appearing on the New York Times op-ed page, the Today Show, a Barbara Walters special and The Oprah Winfrey Show. As a friend of Caitlyn Jenner, she has made appearances on the reality television show I Am Cait.
Boylan has been been married to the same woman for almost three decades — the couple had two sons together before she began her male to female transition in the year 2000. On an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Boylan spoke about how her transformation affected her romantic relationship (you can watch the segment below).
While Boylan’s lecture is free, attendees are required to secure tickets through HSU’s box office. Details on that and more Thursday night options in your Lowdown listings farther south. —Andrew Goff
