WEDNESDAY LOWDOWN: Arcata Boasts an Ash Wednesday Express Lane
Oh, you think the LoCO Lowdown is gonna forget that it’s the first day of Lent? Shame on you!
As we all begin the countdown to our Christ-endorsed Easter egg hunts, LoCO is here with a tip for Humboldt’s mainline Christians on the go. If you happen to be rolling past the Arcata Plaza on this Ash Wednesday around lunchtime (12:30-1:30 p.m.), take a brief moment to have the requisite Ash Wednesday cross drawn on your forehead by the Reverend Sara Potter of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and then, boom, you can go about your merry way knowing that the God of Abraham is pleased with you this year. (Event canceled if raining.)
The blessings continue! Ash Wednesday also happens to fall on Sci-Fi Pint and Pizza Night at the Arcata Theatre Lounge. This week they’re screening Invasion from Inner Earth (1974) which tells the tale of an terrifying invasion from inner earth. Check the production value in the clip below. —AG
