Kids Be Gettin’ Freaky in SoHum

Yes, we realize that we lean heavily NoHum here in Lowdown land. Sorry, SoHummers. But frankly, it’s nights like this we feel most justified in doing so.

Just look at the terrifying display scheduled for the Mateel Community Center tonight! SoHum teen theatre troupe Recycled Youth will stage The Freak Show of Humanity, a piece written by the group and its adult directors. Those brave enough to attend will have their retinas forever scarred by “singing chickens, dancing zombies and deer that hunt people.” Sure, the show is a way for the kids to address injustices they see everyday — promo material names factory farms, government corruption, homophobia and stereotyping as a few — but freaks, man. Too scary.

Anywho, you’ll want to steer clear of the Mateel through the weekend — the production runs through Sunday. Be warned. Less freaky Friday festivities in your Lowdown below.
