Lowdown: March Fourth This March Sixth

Musically, this Humboldt Friday is as vibrant and rowdy as any.

  • The most visually stimulating ensemble providing sound to Humboldt is easily the March Fourth Marching Band, a brass band/circus that employs acrobats, stilt-walkers and dancers in addition to its might horn section. You can attempt to understand the MFMB experience in the YouTube clip below, but pixels hardly do them justice. HumBrews is the proper place to educate yourself.
  • If you heard The HiLL on KHUM today, you know their brand of gritty, outlaw country is no act. Somebody get the Burly Dent reality show started, K? The HiLL shares a bill with local surf/punk/pop thing The Mother Vines at Jambalaya.
  • Arguably Humboldt’s most accomplished, ambitious funk band, Motherlode will deliver more rhythmic shifts than the Logger Bar is used to. If you like your weekends sweaty…

Also on Friday night’s agenda, the 24th Almost Annual Pun-off at Arcata Theatre Lounge. The fundraiser’s reemergence (almost) each year coincides with the following video popping in our news feeds aiming to answer the question “What’s a pun-off?” If you have never personally had that question answered, you know what to do.
