Wednesday Lowdown: Heroic Crabs, Dancing Pokemon, Killer Wooly Mammoths

Before regular Lowdown programming, LoCO must note that local badass nonprofit CASA is making a big ruckus to urge the community to form teams to participate in the annual CASA Kid Walk, an annual fundraiser benefitting local foster kids. You can get more details if you head over to CASA’s website where they’re also rocking a classic fundraising thermometer indicating how efforts are going thus far as well as a leaderboard of teams already bringing in big money. CASA is good. Walk for CASA.

OK. As far as your Humboldt Wednesday is concerned:

  • We will again note that this is your last week to soak up Humboldt Crabs heroics at the Arcata Ball Park. Wednesday night features the ultimate destruction of Bercovich Baseball.
  • Richard’s Goat Tavern provides us the latest example of a local business attempting to capitalize on Pokemania: Their Pokemon-A-Gogo night will feature “Pokemon-themed DJs, trivia, comedy, a costume contest, prizes” and, of course, bar-purchased lures on the nearest Pokestop. Whee!
  • It’s Sci-Fi Pint and Pizza Night up at Arcata Theatre Lounge. Tonight’s selection? The Jungle (1952)! A quick synopsis: “A great white hunter and an Indian princess trek into the Indian jungle to investigate a number of wild animal stampedes which have resulted in the deaths of many people. On their journey, they discover a herd of prehistoric wooly mammoths are responsible for the terror!”  Wooly mammoths! Great! Trailer below! —AG
