Friday Lowdown: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Savage Remote, Beeeeees
Your Humboldt Friday has its share of smaller musical gems easily discoverable by those unafraid of a little Lowdown scrolling. Note that this is the last weekend you get to experience Bat Boy: The Musical at the Ferndale Repertory Theatre — LoCO caught a performance last week and, wow, yeah, never seen anything quite like that. Go see it so we can analyze it while drinking at some future date.
The biggest name jumping off the screen in the listings below is inarguably Big Bad Voodoo Daddy one of the handful of bands to ride big band jazz and swing music’s most recent wave of repopularization in the late ‘90s. They’ll be blowing up at Cher-ae Heights Casino should your foot suit still fit.
LoCO readers will recall not too long ago when we got really excited about the trailer for a soon-to-be-released documentary about Humboldt’s li’l comedy scene and, specifically, Savage Henry Magazine (also drugs). The day has arrived. Let’s watch this thing. Savage Remote premieres tonight at the Arcata Theatre Lounge.
Humboldt has a beekeeping community! Who knew?! And those little workers are all abuzz (<— legally required, here) about this weekend’s returning BeeFest which kicks off tonight at the Bayside Grange with a bee lecture and slide show (yes!) and wraps with a screening of The Last Beekeeper — the trailer actually looks pretty good. See beelow.
