Friday Lowdown: Stop-Motion Animation Film with Live Punk Band-Provided Soundtrack in Arcata (VIDEO)
Scrolling your Friday Lowdown listings reveals much holiday goodness for those who seek it — from opening night of North Coast Dance’s annual production of The Nutcracker at the Arkley Center, to Dell’Arte’s holiday show Alice in Wonderland at the Van Duzer Theatre, to Fortuna’s Holiday Open House and more. Ho to the ho ho!
A good portion of Friday night’s bustle will be centered around the Arcata Plaza due to Arts!Arcata. Some potential awesome: Up at The Minor, the Breakfast All Day Collective is hosting a screening of the stop-motion animation film Torrey Pines, a “queer punk coming-of-age tale, taking place in Southern California in the early 1990s.” Word is, it’s good. The film will be scored live by its director Clyde Petersen’s band Your Heart Breaks from Seattle. You love bands from Seattle!
There’s more at play, here: The event, which also features a silent auction, will serve as a fundraiser for the Breakfast All Day Collective, a local arts-celebrating nonprofit (previous coverage) currently hustling up dollars for its proposed All Ages Arcata project. The goal is to create a space for local youth to express themselves and foster community.
Learn more about the All Ages Arcata project here, watch the Torrey Pines trailer below and/or peruse your Lowdown listings mere pixels below that. —Andrew Goff
